The new subdivision is further away from the water than houses used to be. Why would it be it less important to build near water?

Front Street in the early 1900's. Kincolith was the first Nass Valley community to get electrical power. The original streets ran parallel to the shore. Note how narrow the road is.

Kincolith's new community hall was complete in 1989

A Faith in God's Will

In 1864 a missionary, Rev. R. Doolan, settled Gwin Wok. By 1867 there were so many Christians in that village that they decided to start their own Christian community at Iceberg Bay. They built a large faft so that the move would be as simple as possible.

As they neared the coast a strong wind blew up and pussed their raft north till it grounded at a place called "Gingolx". The villagers took this wind as a sign from God and decided to found their village on that site.

The Nisga'a have always been hardworking and community oriented. Christ Church was completed in 1900. It is the last remaining of the many original native built churches on the coast.

Churches are still important. The modern church, was finished in 1992.
