GREY RAVEN

grey raven at the Prince Rupert Wildlife Rehabilitation Shelter
Old before his time. This is a rare grey raven who was brought to the shelter when he was a very young bird. His parents and siblings left him at the nest site as he was unable to fly and go with them. Observers rescued him from the ground and realized that he was the only grey bird of a normal black clutch. He was kept at the shelter for about 2 months and fed well but wasn't able to fly. He was sent to Vancouver for testing and died at one year young - of old age. An autopsy was performed and it was discovered that he was suffering from progeria, a disease that causes premature aging in humans as well as birds.
