Frigate Bird

This frigate bird was rescued from the Queen of Prince Rupert ferry after being blown off course by a storm. It was brought to the Prince Rupert Wildlife Shelter where it was kept warm, fed and examined for injuries by the local veterinarian, Dr. Paul Kennedy. After spending 3 days at the shelter and being pronounced healthy although a little underweight, having only a bruised wing, it was sent to Burnaby for care until it could be shipped south to the climate it was used to. Medical gloves are always used while handling the bird to prevent contaminating the feathers.

Here the bird is nibbling on Nancy's finger after wolfing down a meal of fresh fish.
