Grizzly Bear 4 Day Tour:
The best time to view grizzly bears is from May 1st thought early July. As a
rule there are a lot of grizzly bears on the inlet and estuary at this time
of year. This being the time they descend from their winter dens to mate and
eat the tender sedge grasses making viewing from the boat, zodiac and shore
quite easy. Often mothers with 1 to 3 cubs can be seen teaching their young
survival in their natural habitat. Also, the salmon rich waters of this area
do attract bears all season long allowing for varied good success in seeing
grizzlies right until late October.
There
are absolutely no facilities in the Khutzeymateen whatsoever. You go in on
the beautiful fully equipped 40ft. motor sailing ketch, Sun Chaser. The Sun
Chaser acts as the mother ship for our expedition. All meals, sleeping
facilities, preparation for viewing excursions and relaxing time are done
onboard. Depending of the booking schedule some charters may be flown in or
out by float plane. This is included in your price.
The boat
trip in is a very exciting experience. The scenery is awe inspiring with lush
green mountains thousands of feet high coming straight down into the sea. We
also pass though some of the best salmon fishing areas in the world, not to
mention the possibility of seeing wolves, porpoises, grey, humpback and
killer whales.
The Following table is a list of scheduled
trips into the Khutzeymateen.
Custom dates are also available upon request.
There are many scheduled trips planned for this
season to the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary, plus trips to other
grizzly habitat. All trips are a maximum of 4 to 6 people.

Grizzly Bear 10 Day Tour:
The
voyage starts in Prince Rupert with the first destination being the Kwinamas
river. Here we board the jet powered zodiac and explore the estuary and
river. This river is part of the range of the Khutzeymateen grizzly
bear. Early day 2 we have a long beautiful cruise between the high steep
coastal mountains up Portland Inlet to the long abandoned
copper smelter town of Anyox. Now only ruins, you will explore them. This is
the spot where one of the worst atrocities man committed against nature
occurred. Now closed for over fifty years, grizzly bears walk where men once
profited. Day 3, penetrating deeper into grizzly county is a short cruise to
the vast, awe inspiring pristine Kshwan River at the end of Hastings Arm.
Explore by zodiac and hiking this most remote and rarely seen river eco
system, relatively unknown even to locals. After a full day here its off to
Alice Arm and another day of exploring rivers and
ruins, then on to Stagoo Creek for river exploring. Day 7 we leave for the
Khutzeymateen arriving late afternoon and will spend days 8 and 9 here
on a regular Khutzeymateen grizzly bear eco-tour, described in the
Khutzeymateen section. Day 10 is the cruise home with salmon sports fishing
at Work Channel for those who so desire, arriving in Prince Rupert around
supper time.

The trip cannot be explained in words, but has to be a photographers and
amateur naturalists dream. A book could easily be written about this area.
The Following table is a list of scheduled
trips into the Khutzeymateen.
Custom dates are also available upon request.
